Welcome home! When we are able to once again travel to Haiti, this is our humble home. The Guest House at the Ebenezer Glenn Orphanage has 4 bedrooms, a great room with kitchen facilities, and a bathroom. Two bedrooms have full size beds and the other two bedrooms have cabin bunks. Electricity is available 24 hours a day. Internet is usually available to all teams. Hot water is not very common in Haiti, therefore showers are "natural" hot water (whatever the sun can warm up during the daytime).
Usually, the team brings in our own food to cook at the Guest House. Often, on the way to Dessalines, we stop at the grocery store where you will find Coke, Michigan apples, Borden cheese, and many American foods. Fresh eggs and homemade solar-oven bread is available at the orphanage.
Yep, the showers are cold, the air is hot, you can’t use a curling iron or a blow dryer, but that simply doesn’t matter. Enjoy the children at the orphanage; they love company. Hug the babies and watch them stare into your eyes or slumber in your arms. Listen to the dog barking at 2am and then the rooster is up at 4am. Enjoy the starry night and look up into the mountains where you will see 4 of the famous forts built during Haiti's war for independence. Sit under the mango tree. Always watch where you step and shoo the goats off the front porch during the rain storm. You get to feed the goats, use a pump well, watch the ladies do laundry by hand, and wonder what is in the tilapia tank. This is Haiti!
We try to keep the cost as low as possible. Most the time, food, lodging, medical insurance, and transportation in Haiti will be under $600.00 (does not include flight). The most unpredictable cost is the flight to Haiti. Often this can range between $600.00 and $1,000. Unfortunately, that cost continues to rise. Therefore, the total cost for most trips are between $1,200-$1,600 per person. Following the purchase of flight tickets, we can give you a much better idea of the final cost. We keep you informed every step of the process.
If you are accepted on the team, a $100.00 non refundable registration fee is due to reserve your position. Many American educators are supported by donations from friends and family to help defray the cost of serving in Haiti. Involve your friends and family in this ministry. You are willing to go and do God's work; take time to ask them if they are willing to assist you to make this ministry a reality in your life. You will go, allow friends and family to support you in funds and prayers. Together, you are a team

Currently, civil unrest is widespread in Haiti, therefore, we do not have any trips planned to go to Haiti. However, we are seeking American teachers to join our team as we continue to develop training materials presented by our Haitian coordinators. Please consider joining this endeavor.
